Sam Binga and Addison Groove have announced that their debut collaborative album, BAGS INC., will be released on 10 July on Pineapple Records.
The 12-track album draws on a range of musical styles, including techno, electro, Chicago house, juke, and acid, all within the 140-150bpm zone, and was recently road-tested in a live hardware set at fabric London earlier this month, as part of a Pineapple Records takeover.
The project builds on a long-standing connection between the two producers, which began in 2013 with BS3 on Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons imprint.
“Me and Addison Groove have a shared fascination for raw, machine-led music – you could argue that through tunes like Footcrab, and then touring with an original 808, Addison is a key part in the story of classic drum machines and UK dance music,” Binga commented.
The raw building blocks for the BAGS INC. album came from three days at Devon Analogue Studio – a place absolutely brimming with every iconic piece of dance music hardware, and then some. We dived head first into exploring these boxes, building riffs and grooves, trying to keep that stripped-back essence, but with enough space to add our own flavour.
“I’ve always loved the idea of ‘box jams’ – taking hardware, linking it up and creating tracks on those pieces of kit, and we decided that should be the approach to our live show as well – rather than try to recreate the album, instead we want to recreate the spirit, aesthetic and workflow that inspired it.”
BAGS INC. lands on 10 July via Pineapple Records – more information can be found here.
