DJ, producer and Grammy-nominated songwriter Will Clarke recently teamed up with Oliver Heldens to rework Sister Sledge’s 1979 disco classic Lost In Music, recently released on Charlotte de Witte’s Époque label. It’s an “all-time classic reimagined for the modern day rave,” as Clarke himself puts it. You can check it out here.
Bristol native Clarke has been a regular on labels such as Dirtybird, Relief Records and his own All We Have Is Now imprint for well over a decade now, and released his first full-length album, Midnight Mass, on Music On Vinyl in 2024. Since 2015, he’s also hosted The Will Clarke Podcast, chatting to a variety of electronic artists and music industry faces across what is now more than 330 episodes. Along the way, Clarke, whose DJ career started with a residency in Ibiza when he was just 17, has played at some of the world’s top venues, such as Printworks, Warehouse Project, DC10, Amnesia, and Ushuaia.
For this week’s #MyRecordBag, Will Clarke presents his top ‘tracks to lose yourself to’.
DVS1 – Black Russian
“This has been one of my favourite records to listen to. It’s literally one of the most perfect records: the groove, the chords, the progression. I don’t often get to play it in my sets; however, I will listen to this on repeat. I also love what DVS1 represents as someone in the industry: pure authenticity.”
Breach – You Won’t Find Love
“I could’ve picked any one of Breach’s records; however, this one was my introduction to his work and holds very, very fond memories. A truly beautiful record, and it slams on the dancefloor too.”
David Tort – Hey Yeah!
“It’s an absolute monster of a record, this… I only came across this recently and Jesus Christ, it’s a bomb.”
Oliver Heldens & Will Clarke – Lost In Music
“Nothing like a bit of self-promotion, innit.” 😉
Claude VonStroke – The Whistler
“One of my first introductions to Dirtybird and Claude VonStroke. This whole era of Dirtybird just is still, in my opinion, the most elite time in electronic music: a blend of house, techno, hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass. Just a load of f**king weird, groovy fun records without being cheesy.”
Josh Wink – Talking To You
“Josh, first of all, as we all know, is THEEE acid legend. I also call him the ‘Matthew McConaughey of techno’. However, I digress. This record is the most perfect groove and intense, in-your-face techno ever. Proper record and, without sounding wanky, takes you on a journey. It literally does serious damage on a dancefloor. People’s jaws aren’t the same after this record.”
Will Clarke – Raise Your Hands
“Again, some more self-promotion; however, right now, and this may change tomorrow, this is my favourite record I’ve released. Just puts me in my feels, brings back a lot of memories, reminds me of friends, family and never misses on the dancefloor.”
Kyle Watson x Body Ocean – Are You The Same
“Kyle has recently released his second album, Ask Me Tomorrow. This is one of the cuts on it, and I just love the whole feeling of this record. The melody and lyrics from Body Ocean, mixed with Kyle’s anticlimactic production, is literally exactly what I want on an electronic album. Go listen to the full album.”
The Chemical Brothers – MAH
“Literally one of the wildest records known to man.”
Faithless – Liontamer
“Faithless are literally the only reason why I make music. We all know the classics, but this is one of my favourite cuts from the album that literally shaped my whole life.”
Oliver Heldens & Will Clarke – Lost In Music is out now on Charlotte de Witte’s Époque imprint. Check it out here.
