Luigi Madonna launches new record label with ‘Contempo’ EP

Italian techno producer Luigi Madonna has unveiled his debut record label, Contempo, which will seek to ‘supply the underground community with a harder and faster strain of techno‘.

The label’s first release is the three-track Contempo Vol. 1 EP, released by Luigi Madonna himself, which demonstrate the Napoli producer’s dexterity when it comes to delivering intense and uncompromising beats.

It also marks a change of approach for Madonna himself – during lockdown, he invested in an upgrade of his studio equipment, with an acute focus on analog and modular synthesisers. Stimulated by this new working format, Luigi’s forthcoming Contempo catalogue will extend to his DJ sets via a live set up, as well as a series of dedicated Contempo nights… more on these in the months to come.

As he told 909originals a couple of years back, “I love doing slightly longer and more extensive sets – I would say at least three hours, because you can express yourself at 360 degrees by dictating the rhythms and the flow of a night. So 3.00am onwards, I would say, is perfect.

“I also love doing sets that are from start to finish, where I take control of a room and immerse the people on a journey through music together.”

Having started off as a house music producer, Madonna’s palette has seen a definitive shift into the world of stripped-back techno, bringing with it a host of experimental sensibilities. Contempo Music is likely to provide a platform for more of the same.
