It made its name both for its iconic sunset terrace and its series of Balearic downtempo compilations, but now Ibiza icon Café Del Mar is set to release its first artist album.
The album, Journey Within, from producers Pig&Dan, will be the first long player to be released on the label, and is set to be released on 13 June.
The release comes as Café Del Mar, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, ’embraces a forward-thinking persona, expanding on its formative roots’, according to a press release. More artist-led projects are set to be released on Café del Mar Music in the near future.
“Pig&Dan sent me this unsigned album last year, and after testing the tracks in my daily sets, the crowd’s reaction said it all,” commented Ken Fan, Café Del Mar’s resident DJ and music curator. “Every time I included them in a mix, people were asking what they were, and Shazaming with no results. It’s a brilliant start to our first artist release at Café del Mar, with more to come. Watch this space.”
While Pig&Dan are more widely known for their high-tempo electronica, this album marks a more reflective side to their musical personality, with ‘earthy dub textures, featuring warm psychedelia and downtempo soundscapes’.
“We wanted to explore the deeper, more emotive side of our musical identity, stepping away from the club energy to create something that reaches a bit deeper,” they commented. “This album is a journey into our minds, reflecting the influences and organic sounds that have always been part of our creative DNA.”
