‘Dance 4 Delano’ event to raise funds for Delano Smith’s cancer treatment

Bodytonic, Subject and Deeper Groove Records have joined together for an event to raise funds for Detroit house and techno DJ/producer Delano Smith, who was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer that his health insurance will not cover.

All ticket sales will go help towards funding medication, chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the Detroit legend.

The Dance 4 Delano event takes place on Friday 2 June at Wigwam, Dublin, with tickets priced at €10 plus booking fee. Tickets can be purchased here.

The lineup on the night includes Doug Cooney, Mode_1, Tr-One, Glenn Davis, Cameratraxx, Paul Allen and many more.

Delano Smith stands as one of the enduring figures among the original Detroit DJs, unwavering in his dedication to the art. Imagining house and techno without his profound influence would paint a vastly different musical landscape today.

While much has been chronicled about the dance music scene post-The Belleville Three and Underground Resistance, the contextual backdrop that paved the way for their emergence remains relatively obscure.

Under the mentorship of the late Ken Collier, Delano diligently honed his craft. His early sets deftly intertwined soul, disco, and nascent electronic sounds, sowing the seeds of inspiration for subsequent generations of Detroit musicians.
