Reset Robot, aka DJ and producer Dave Robertson, recently announced details of his latest EP, Simple, on Sasha‘s Last Night On Earth imprint – set for release on 16 October – following on from previous excursions on the label, such as last year’s Meltwater EP.
Weaving elements of techno and house – both minimal and heavier styles – into his productions, the Portsmouth-based artist has also released on labels such as Get Physical, Soma and Drumcode and Truesoul, over a career that is approaching the two-decade mark.
For this week’s #MyRecordBag, Reset Robot shares his top after-hours tracks – cuts for when everything starts to get a bit hazy… 🙂
Tim Green – Sea Parade [Shanti Radio]
“This has the perfect balance between club and after-hours, in my opinion. Smooth drums, beautiful synths and pads create such a nice atmosphere. This would be in my bag at all times!”
Boku – Fading Echos [Just Like That]
“This is a bit more pacey, and I would definitely slow it down if I were playing it. It has exactly the vibe I’d be looking for for those early morning sessions. Energetic, uplifting and very danceable.”
Leon Vynehall – Duofade [Studio Ooze]
“Love this record. It’s a filthy little number which you could probably play at any time. For the after-hours, this would be great if people still wanted something a bit more gritty, as it still fits with the more melodic stuff.”
Nic Fanciulli & Butch – I Want You [Defected]
“A great house record! This would work perfectly for me because sometimes you just need one of these records to get the dancefloor going, even if it’s after-hours.”
Stephan Bazbaz – Locus
“This has been in my bag for a while, and I’ve used it to warm up a room a few times, but this is also perfect for the after-hours party. Great energy in the drums, with atmospheric pads and FX giving it that deep, heady vibe.”
Ross From Friends – High Energy [Ostgut Ton]
“Not sure I need to write much about this one. One of my favourite Ross From Friends tracks. Close your eyes, listen and be transported to another world.”
DJ T, Simon Sheldon & LOEW – Blaze [Get Physical]
“Absolute masterpiece! This is one of those tunes that would work in so many sets. It has a timeless, classic feel that, for me, would be amazing at an after-hours party! Mixing this into some housey/melodic stuff would work perfectly.”
DJ Seinfeld – Please Slow Down [Young Ethics]
“Something about this track just grabs hold of me and makes me stop and listen. It’s my favourite DJ Seinfeld track and just gives me a huge dose of nostalgia. Trancey, ravey, timeless are words that come to mind.”
Daphni – YeYe [Jiaolong]
“Sometimes the after-hours calls for something dark and twisted. This is it!”
Peter Dundee – Overtone [Cocoon Recordings]
“This takes me back to my trance days, but in a more modern way! A beautiful record and probably how I’d finish an after-hours set.”
