Awakenings Spring Festival 2023 – post-event recap

The weather gods were smiling on Spaarnwoude this past Saturday and Sunday (13 and 14 May), with revellers bathed in sunshine for two days of quality techno at Awakenings Spring Festival.

The 909originals team was out in force at the event, and from the uplifting vibes of main stage opener Juliet Fox on Saturday lunchtime, through to the techno onslaught from Rebekah as Sunday drew to a close, it goes without saying that we loved every minute.

Personal highlights from the Saturday included Anfisa Letyago, the aforementioned Juliet Fox (interview incoming soon) and Joyhauser in Area V, Blawan in Area Y and a storming lineup to close Area M, with Marcel Dettman followed by Ben Klock back-to-back with Fadi Mohem, and Nina Kraviz to close.

Arguably the biggest reception of the night, though, went to DJ Rush in Area X, with the arena full to bursting as the Chicago maestro took no prisoners.

In terms of Sunday, meanwhile, JKS & Tigerhead got things off to a stomping start, while other highlights included Bart Skils (Area V), Patrice Bäumel (Area M), the always-reliable Speedy J (Area Y) and a storming tech house set from Chris Stussy, whose regular appearances at Awakenings are becoming a must-attend.

To end the festival, a back-to-back from Adam Beyer and Joseph Capriati (Area V) warmed things up nicely before techno maven Rebekah closed things off in her own inimitable style.

One thing’s for certain – we’ll be making this springtime trip to Amsterdam a regular office outing. 🙂
