Moby kicks off the new year with new ambient album, ‘Ambient 23’

Moby has kicked off the new year with the release of a new 16-track ambient album, Ambient 23, part of a semi-annual tradition by the New York artist.

Commenting on the new release, he said, “It’s a bit different than some of my more recent ambient records because it’s almost exclusively made with weird old drum machines and old synths from my collection, inspired by my early ambient heroes.”

The release follows on from the launch of a new label, Always Centered at Night, in 2022, which is focusing on ’emotional, atmospheric, and potentially beautiful music’. Releases on the label to date include Medusa, a collaboration between Moby and Aynzli Jones, Fall Back, a collaboration with Akemi Fox, On Air, which sees Moby team up with serpentwithfeet, and the stripped-back orchestral Ache For, alongside José James.

Multiple releases on Always Centered at Night are planned for 2023, according to the artist.
