Trust Twitter to give Daft Punk a hilarious send off…

In case you’ve been living under a (robot) rock for the past few hours, you’ll know that Daft Punk have finally called it a day, 28 years after bursting onto the scene with debut EP The New Wave.

Releasing a cryptic, eight-minute video earlier today entitled Epilogue (in which the Thomas Bangalter robot somewhat disconcertingly blows up), the farewell was finally confirmed.

Truth be told, the self-styled robots appeared to have packed it in a few years back, only resurfacing in 2016 to record Starboy alongside The Weeknd… giving rise to rumours that they would make a surprise appearance at this year’s Super Bowl. But they didn’t.

Now, it’s finally official, and while those of us of a certain age reminisce about the first time we saw Da Funk on MTV, or heard Rollin’ & Scratchin’ through a killer soundsystem, or were lucky enough to catch Messrs Bangalter and de Homem-Christo on one of their few tours (Marlay Park, Dublin, 2006 was a personal highlight), others took to social media to share their memories… with more than a hint of sarcasm.

Here’s a selection of some of the top tweets from today, as the world said goodbye to Daft Punk.
