David Holmes’ tribute mix to Andrew Weatherall is all you should be listening to right now…

It’s been just under a month since we lost a titan of the music industry – Andrew Weatherall – and the outpouring of respect and celebration has been something to behold. And quite right too.

Earlier this week, The Face published a heartfelt tribute to the Screamadelica producer, as friends compatriots shared stories and memories.

As Radio 1 DJ Benji B put it, talking about Weatherall’s undying love of discovering new music, “When you’re blessed with that kind of passion – and it is a blessing – over time you become an expert in something without having intended to do so. And those are the experts I want to hear from – not self-proclaimed ones.

“The best experts are the ones who’ve lived rather than learned.”

This past week, David Holmes, a longstanding friend of Weatherall’s, unveiled the latest instalment of his ‘God’s Waiting Room’ series on NTS Radio – a heady mix of psychedelia, ambient, experimental, cinema scores, electro and good old fashioned rock and roll, dedicated to the man himself.

It’s one of the most eclectically proficient mixes you’re likely to hear all year, and we reckon Mr Weatherall, who was laid to rest on Thursday, would approve.

May his journey through the cosmos be as soaring as his limited time on this planet. RIP Andrew Weatherall. 🙂
