A Man Called Adam have announced plans to release a special edition collection of remixes of their Balearic classic, Barefoot In The Head, to mark the 35th anniversary of their 1991 album, The Apple.
The release will feature 16 rare, unreleased and previously unavailable versions of the track, alongside Barefoot 26, a new interpretation developed from a 2017 orchestral rehearsal recording. Some 11 of the 16 tracks featured have previously not been made available, including the original bedroom demo.
It also includes the previously unheard Bowelfoot Mix, the Farley & Heller/Boys Own-inspired Back to Pacha Mix, and 2005 Southern Fried remixes by FUG and Justin Robertson, among others.
“The Balearic tag and its mystery never really goes away, and the music is so bound up with people’s own rites of passage that there’s a fondness for the tracks that we’re very thankful for and like to treat respectfully,” commented A Man Called Adam’s Sally Rodgers.
The remix collection will be released to coincide with a performance and cultural event in Middlesbrough, where A Man Called Adam have been commissioned by MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) and the Turner Prize to curate the official opening after-party for the 2026 Turner Prize on 24 September.
The event, at Middlesbrough Town Hall, forms part of the wider programme around the 2026 Turner Prize, which is being hosted by MIMA. It will also feature a HiFi listening experience in collaboration with Q Acoustics, live music from The Chemical City Suite performed by The Aurora String Quartet, soundsystem sets from Sir Racha, Hanah Mercy and MC General TG of Teesside Dubclub, Afrobeat from Tariro and Dennis, and comedy from Phil Dunning.
