Number 90 in Hackney Wick, London, has announced a series of upgrades, including a new soundsystem and centralised DJ booth, as well as an expanded food offering.
The bar said that it is ‘expanding its offering to become a premier destination for canalside food, drinks and live sporting events this summer’, with all England games and selected other World Cup matches broadcast on big screens.
The kitchen is now headed up by James Cochran, founder of Around The Cluck and winner of The Great British Menu, who has developed an offering based around fried chicken, burgers and salads, as well as specialties including Bang Bang Salad and Jerk Chicken Scotch Eggs.
The venue has also partnered with Salseo, an experiential dining and cultural platform that brings together food, wine and music experiences. As part of the collaboration, Salseo has curated a natural wine selection intended to accompany Cochran’s menu.
Music remains central to the Number 90 ethos, with events taking place across the venue’s three spaces – Number 90 Bar, Number 90 Lock and Number 90 Hideout.
A mix of club nights, live performances, exhibitions and independent cultural events is planned throughout the summer, with the inaugural Sound & Silence Festival – an alcohol-free, donation-based festival focused on music and social connection, which takes place on 12 July – among the highlights.
Elsewhere, on 1 August, Number 90 will host the Hospital 30 Block Party, marking three decades of the label Hospital Records, while on 20 August, the venue will celebrate the 30th anniversary of BBE Music, with performances by Al Kent, Chris Harvey, Handson Family, John Morales, Mr Thing and Patrick Steele.
The new-look bar is officially opening on 25 June. More information on upcoming events can be found via the venue’s Instagram page.
