Mark Barrott, formerly known as Future Loop Foundation, has announced details of a new album, entitled The Exit Diaries, which is set to land on 18 June on Anjunachill.

The album consists of 14 tracks across two extended instrumental concepts, Light Variations and The Stone Tape, and features contributions from drummer Leo Taylor, known for his work with Floating Points, Hot Chip and The Invisible.

It draws on orchestral composition, jazz, ambient music and electronic production – all aspects that have guided Barrott’s career to date.

As Future Loop Foundation, Barrott was the first live act to perform on the BBC radio show 1 in the Jungle, hosted by Fabio and Grooverider, while he later founded the International Feel label, which became associated with Balearic, disco and electronic releases.

Among the artists to release tracks on the label were José Padilla, Quiet Village and Gatto Fritto, alongside remixes from artists including Andrew Weatherall, Theo Parrish and Todd Terje.

A return to Ibiza in 2012 led Barrott to begin releasing music under his own name, including the Sketches From An Island series, while in recent years, Barrott has collaborated with creatives including Virgil Abloh and Richard Norris. Last year he released a remix of The Grid‘s seminal track, Flotation.

Barrott’s previous album, Everything Changes, Nothing Ends, was released in 2024 and written following the passing of his wife, Sara. This followed on from 2023’s Jōhatsu (蒸発), which was also released on Anjunachill.

“I’ve been around, and I’ve basically realised there’s five things that make me happy,” Barrott says of the new album. “There’s cats, there’s test match cricket, there’s Ibiza, there’s reading… and the fifth is making music.”
