#MyRecordBag – Mozambo’s top 90s/2000s French house tracks

French production duo Mozambo have had a busy couple of years, with a run of new releases and international bookings, and the continued growth of their Jungle Disco label.

Their latest release, alongside Brazilian producer Antdot, is a dance reworking of Angie Stone’s Wish I Didn’t Miss You – set to be released on 17 April – which infuses the rhythmic structure and vocals of the original with afro and deep house vibes.

“This remix is very special to us because the original has been part of our lives for years,” Mozambo said of the remix. “Two years ago, in Ibiza, we rediscovered it while digging and we had this idea: we wanted to play it in our sets, but to reinterpret it with our own sound.

“For us it’s also connected to the legacy of Ibiza, especially that iconic Carl Cox moment at the Space closing in 2016. We’ve watched that video so many times, it always gave us goosebumps. We were scared to touch it because it’s such a masterpiece, but one day we started the project and everything flowed naturally. The goal was to pay tribute to Angie Stone and to that Ibiza spirit, keeping the emotion of the vocal. It’s really a sunset and closing record, an homage and a dream turned into reality.”

For this week’s #MyRecordBag, Mozambo serve up a selection of their top 90s/2000s French house tracks. Over to you, lads!

Bel Amour — Bel Amour

“This track is a true French Touch gem from the early 2000s and, in our opinion, still underrated by the younger generation. Bel Amour perfectly captures what made that era so special. The way it’s built around a disco sample from 1978, one of the richest years for disco music, is just incredible. That whole French approach to sampling, filtering, looping, and reshaping the original groove is something we’ve always admired.

“The bassline, the filters, the energy of the loop… everything feels effortless yet so powerful. It’s a timeless record that still works perfectly on a dancefloor today. We still play it regularly, and it always creates a special moment. It’s simply a track we love.”

Demon — You Are My High

“This is one of our all-time favorite records, a track we’ll never get tired of. Built around that beautiful Gap Band sample, it’s simply a masterpiece. It perfectly captures the essence of French Touch, with that emotional, hypnotic loop and a groove that feels both intimate and powerful. We actually had the chance to work on a remix of it, which hasn’t been released yet, and Demon really loved it.

“We’re still in touch, and it’s been a special connection for us. The music video has also become truly iconic, especially that unforgettable kiss scene, which perfectly matches the emotion of the track and has left a lasting impression. It’s a record we grew up with, one we still play regularly, and for us, it remains one of the most iconic tracks of the French Touch era. Huge love to Demon for creating something that will stay with us forever.”

Superfunk — Lucky Star

“This is another track that has marked us for life. We’ll never get tired of it. With the iconic voice of Ron Carroll layered over that legendary sample, it’s a record that carries so much soul and energy. It’s one of those tracks that truly shaped us as DJs. We actually learned how to mix with records like this. It’s a timeless track that still works perfectly today, and one we will always love.”

Together — DJ Falcon & Thomas Bangalter

“Another one from two absolute legends and major inspirations for us. Released on Roulé in the early 2000s, this track is a perfect example of the raw, filtered disco sound that defined the French Touch era. We were lucky enough to find it on vinyl, which makes it even more special, as it was only released on the label at the time.

“It’s a rare and beautiful record that still works perfectly today. Every time we play it, there’s a unique emotion that comes through. This track, and that whole era, continue to inspire us deeply, especially in the way they approached sampling, with that raw, unpolished feel and those hypnotic disco loops. It’s definitely one of our key references.”

Modjo — Lady (Hear Me Tonight)

“This is one of those tracks that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Built around a Chic sample, one of our all-time favourite bands, it combines an unforgettable bassline with a truly beautiful vocal. It’s a track that makes us feel nostalgic, happy, and full of energy all at once.

“We still play it in many of our sets, and we never get tired of it. There’s something timeless about it that just works every single time. It’s incredible to see how records like this can cross generations without losing their impact. For us, it’s simply a masterpiece.”

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke — Intro

“This is a track that completely blew us away the first time we heard it. Hearing that bassline on a proper sound system in a club was a real shock for us. It’s one of those moments where everything just clicks – the groove, the energy, the emotion. It instantly leaves a mark. It’s a truly iconic record from that era, with a bassline that is simply unforgettable.

“Later on, we got curious and started digging into how the track was made, watching videos of them building it with samplers and loops. That approach to production really inspired us. It’s a masterpiece, and Alan Braxe and Fred Falke are two artists we deeply admire. Huge respect to them for this record.”

Cassius — Feeling for You

“We’ve always been huge fans of Cassius. This was actually one of the tracks we had on our iPods when we were younger, at a time when we were just discovering this whole movement without fully understanding it yet. We were completely hypnotised by the sample, the loop, and the overall vibe of the track. The music video is also iconic, and it played a big part in how we connected with the record.

“It’s really through tracks like this that we discovered Cassius, a duo we believe is still underrated. BoomBass and Philippe Zdar are two artists we deeply admire and would have loved to meet. This track left a lasting impression on us and will stay with us forever.”

Bob Sinclar — I Feel for You

“This is another track that really had a strong impact on us. Built around a Cerrone sample, one of our all-time favorite artists and a true pioneer of disco in France, it brings together everything we love. For us, Cerrone represents a major figure in music history, and hearing his influence reinterpreted through French Touch is something very special.

“It’s definitely one of our favorite Bob Sinclar records from that era. We still love playing it from time to time, and it always feels just as powerful. It perfectly blends disco, French Touch, and that timeless groove we’re so attached to. A truly beautiful track.”

Stardust — Music Sounds Better With You

“What can you even say about this track? It’s the kind of record every DJ dreams of making at some point. For us, it’s simply the perfect track – a true masterpiece that we will never get tired of. Built around that iconic Chaka Khan sample, with a simple looping vocal, yet it carries so much emotion. It’s minimal, but incredibly powerful.

“It’s one of those timeless records that transcends generations and still feels just as special every time you hear it. We don’t even have the words to fully describe what this track means to us. Just pure respect to the artists behind it.”

The Supermen Lovers — Ain’t No Love (feat. Mani Hoffman)

“This is a track we discovered quite late. We had always been big fans of The Supermen Lovers, and we were lucky enough to work with Guillaume [Atlan] and build a real friendship with him. He actually introduced us to this record, and we instantly fell in love with it.

“The groove, the bassline, the vocal—everything about this track is just perfect. It’s one of those records that feels both simple and incredibly effective at the same time. It’s a track we truly love, and it holds a special place for us. Huge respect and a lot of love to Guillaume.”
