DJ Hydra, a rising talent in the Afro House scene, has unveiled a new EP on OVAVA Music, Moyo Wa Upendo – a two-tracker that follows on from his successful recent single, Bamidele.
The title track, Moyo Wa Upendo, which translates to ‘heart of love’ in Swahili, blends Afrocentric rhythms and warm electronic textures, while the B-side, Like House, features high-energy percussion and a raw Afro House spirit.
The EP, which is the eighth release on the OVAVA Music imprint, captures DJ Hydra’s signature style: rooted in tradition yet forward-thinking, weaving textured soundscapes with evocative storytelling.
‘An intimate journey inviting listeners to connect with sound, culture, and identity, this release cements Hydra as one of Afro House’s most compelling new voices,’ as a press release put it.
DJ Hydra also recently unveiled his own label, Suru Records – Bamidele was the first release on the imprint – and has drawn inspiration from the likes of Keinemusik and Black Coffee in honing a sound that both resonates in intimate club settings and large festival stages.
2024 was a stand-out year for OVAVA Music, led by Ollie Mundy, with the label featured in Mixmag, DJ Mag, and Techno Mood. Ollie’s return to his ‘Back To Mine’ residency at Pikes in Ibiza hints at an exciting year ahead, with fresh releases and new milestones.
