Arab-Irish producer Moving Still has announced the release of a new EP, Close to the Shams, on Bordello A Parigi.

The four-track EP is released on vinyl on 7 March, with a full digital release to follow on 21 March.

It follows on from Ouddy Bangers Vol 1 and Vol 2, released last year, which paid homage to the richness of Arab and Middle Eastern music.

According to Moving Still, aka Jamal Sul, the new EP is a ‘deeply personal project’ inspired by the birth of his daughter and the anticipation of brighter days ahead. It takes its name from an Arabic phrase, meaning ‘close to the sun’.

The four tracks include Zaman, Bang of Luban (the stand-out track for us), Close to the Shams and Sunday Rollover (Suntop Mix), the latter of which anticipates the warm weather to come (hopefully).

Moving Still was also recently recognised in a feature in Arab News, in which he discussed his musical inspiration. “For every song that I’ve ever recorded, I always try to embody an emotion—whether it’s unconditional love, fear or excitement,” he explained. “Most of the time, I never really get a chance to explain the emotion in a song — it just happens through people dancing.”

Moving Still is hosting a launch event at Dublin’s Fidelity Studio on 7 March to celebrate the release, with a lineup featuring Tara Kumar, Sally Cinnamon, Sahana, and Mango – expect a blend of Arabic heat, Italo, disco, and habibi house. Tickets are available here.
