Arab-Irish artist Moving Still has released a new instalment of his Ouddy Bangers series, with Ouddy Bangers Vol 2 featuring reworking of tracks by Sonia Salama, Luna Badran, Talaat Zein and Cheb Rizki.
The EP, which is available as a free download, pays homage to the music of Lebanon, Egypt and Morocco – specifically late 80s and early 90s female vocal-driven disco tracks from the Middle East, many of which are largely unknown outside of their home markets.
“I’ve been eagerly awaiting the perfect moment to share Ouddy Bangers Vol. 2, and now it’s finally here,” Moving Still commented on the new EP. “Offering these tracks for free is my way of thanking everyone who’s supported me over the years. I hope they fill dancefloors and create lasting Ouddy memories and connections. Special thanks to my wife for her unwavering belief and support in bringing this project to life. To my kids, having you alone motivated me every step of the way.”
The opening track, Khatar by Sonia Salama, also known as Farouk Salama’s Wife, showcases Moving Still’s ability to breathe new life into hidden gems. It was originally unearthed on an obscure YouTube channel and has been given a transformative revival by the artist.
“The original track is already a slammer, with a chorus that truly says it all,” he said. “The music video is equally wild; I think it holds the essence of the song’s energy. Editing this track was hard at first as I couldn’t get it right, but once I added a bit of muscle, I couldn’t resist sneaking in a playful Arp solo towards the end.”
Known for tracks like Sidi Mansour and Al Disco Haram, and releases on Cooking with Palms Trax, Orange Tree Edits, and Dar Disku, Moving Still blends Middle Eastern influences with modern electronic sounds, earning accolades from platforms like Mixmag, Resident Advisor, and support from influential DJs such as Palms Trax, Hunee, and Nabihah Iqbal. He’s performed at the likes of Boiler Room and Electric Picnic, and his work has been featured in DJ Mag, The Vinyl Factory, and Resident Advisor.
