Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter announces digital release of ‘Chiroptera’

Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk, has announced the digital release of Chiroptera, a soundtrack produced for a dance performance held in the Paris Opera House last November.

The soundtrack accompanied a performance created by artist JR and choreographer Damien Jallet which was realised by 154 dancers in the forecourt of the opera house on 12 November last.

The release contains just a fragment of the full project that was developed by Bangalter, which contained close to six hours of music. The full project is also being made available digitally – as Chiroptera Matiere Premiere – via streaming platforms, and as a limited-edition 10-vinyl edition, which is going on sale at Galerie Perrotin in Paris and on Atelier JR webshop.

The release of both Chiroptera and Chiroptera Matiere Premiere also sees the debut of Aletheia 19, a sound installation developed by Bangalter in the wake of his work on the Chiroptera project.

The installation, which consists of nineteen monophonic microgrooves cut on vinyl and presented in a simultaneous unsynchronised playback, is part of Dans La Lumier, JR’s fourth exhibition at Galerie Perrotin in Paris.

Aletheia 19 is being presented in the Espace Saint-Claude from 7 June to 15 June.
