William Orbit returns with new EP, ‘Starbeam’

William Orbit has unveiled his first solo release in seven years, with the launch of the four-track Starbeam EP.

Released on 1 December on Anjunadeep, the EP is Orbit’s latest output from a career that’s birthed 11 solo studio albums and seven ensemble albums as a member of Bassomatic and Torch Song, and the influential Guerrilla Records label. And who could forget the hugely influential Strange Cargo series?

He is also one of electronic and pop music’s most sought-after producers, working with the likes of Madonna, Blur, Pink, Robbie Williams and countless other artists over a four-decade career.

This is his first release on the Anujadeep label. Mastered in Dolby Atmos 360 audio, Starbeam showcases Orbit’s continued refusal to stop experimenting and pushing the boundaries.

As one of the most influential proponents of the essential post-rave and back-to-mine soundtrack, Orbit’s ambient, downbeat Strange Cargo album series was intrinsically rooted and referenced in the 90s ambient, chill-out and Balearic movements, as was 1995’s seminal Pieces In A Modern Style.
