Berlin to host ‘Clubculture Reboot’ programme this weekend

Berlin club promoters are undertaking a pilot series of events this coming weekend (6-8 August), to determine how dance events could proceed in the event of a potential COVID ‘fourth wave’… or indeed future pandemics.

The Berlin Club Commission, along with Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, which previously launched the Perspektive Kultur pilot project earlier this year (to explore the opening of cultural and business events under hygiene and protective measures), is working with clubs such as Salon Zur Wilden Renate, SO36, Metropol, Festsaal Kreuzberg and the Kitkat Club on the events.

Other groups involved in the initiative include the Charité medical facility and Think.Health Hygiene Solutions.

The current links between club reopening and incidence rates prompted the development of the initiative – the lack of predictability associated with this approach poses a significant problem for the industry, and the groups involved believe that it can be solved by scientifically based models that enable dance events even under pandemic conditions.

The initiative will utilise PCR testing, tracking and increased ventilation to seek to create conditions in which people can party safely, without requiring social distancing or the wearing of masks.

The groups are hopeful that this approach will enable events of up to 2,000 people to take place in selected venues.

“We are very happy that we can carry out this pilot project,” commented Pamela Schobeß, chairwoman of the Berlin Club Commission. “We urgently need a plan and a solution on how we can find our way back into club culture life from our one and a half year stagnation – for the community, for the artists, the employees and the many other trades that are directly connected to us.

We need perspective, and at the same time the possibility to enable safe events without masks and distancing. We are pleased that we have a corresponding scientific agreement with Charité, and that the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa is also supporting us on our journey”

Tickets for each event are priced at €15, including a €10 ‘deposit’, which will be returned following a post-event PCR re-test.
