To mark his 60th birthday, here are five great Danny Tenaglia sets…

Today (March 7) is the 60th birthday of one of house music’s great mavericks, Brooklyn native Danny Tenaglia.

As you may have seen, the great man is marking the occasion with a marathon party on Beatport featuring both himself and artists such as Carl Cox, Dubfire, Seth Troxler, Guy Gerber, Nicole Modbauer and many more.

Since breaking on the scene in the early 90s, Tenaglia has been one of the most sought-out producers and remixers in house music, while his mammoth DJ sets, which often segue into electro, hip hop and full-on techno, are legend-making.

In an interview with Billboard a couple of days ago, he revealed how he believes dance music has changed in the years since he first took to the turntables.

“It’s become so different from the first 30 years of my career. Going to record stores, getting the promos in the mail, physical vinyl, the CDs, the flash drives and then files in your computer where everything looks the same. It started losing the glory a little bit, especially when the record stores and labels started closing and everything became digital. The social aspect, with that you felt a drive and energy.

“Getting into my 50s, you start getting interested in other things, and your next gig might not be for the next five weeks. But when I finally do sit down and do it, it’s like all that time is erased. I’m that kid filing through records all over again.”

To mark his milestone birthday, here are five great Danny Tenaglia sets to bring some quality sounds into your Sunday. Happy birthday Danny!

Danny Tenaglia, Global Undergound 017: London – CD 2, 2000

“The spell remains…” A retrospective of a set Danny played in now-defunct London superclub Home. While CD1 is a decent, if slightly housey effort, CD2 is a fantastic voyage, from the opening bars of Microworld’s Signals, to the hands-in-the-air high of Schiller’s Ruhe. A high-water mark for the Global Underground series, if you ask us. 🙂
