Happy 808 day everyone..!

To a generation of techno/acid/hip hop aficionados, August 8 means only one thing – an opportunity to reminisce about the mighty Roland 808, arguably the ‘rhythm machine’ of its generation when it was first released in 1980.
With great timing, Roland used the occasion to announce that it is set to release a ‘boutique’ version of the famous sequencer (as examined in more detail by The Verge), but for me there’s no better way to pay tribute than by revisiting this retro commercial from the 808’s launch, 37 years ago. [Hat tip to The Death Beats for the upload]
Anyone else think that the makers of Netflix’s Stranger Things might have had this in mind when they were creating the show’s title sequence? 🙂
