French electronic and cosmic disco outfit Space – whose masked personas pre-dated that of Daft Punk by a couple of decades – have announced details of a forthcoming new compilation, The Art Of Space Disco (1977–1978).
The compilation, which is set to land on Because Music on 16 October, brings together recordings from the group’s first two years alongside new remixes and previously unreleased material.
This includes Magic Fly, the track that established Space’s blending of electronic melodies, interstellar energy and disco beats, upon its release in 1977.
Magic Fly was also the title of Space’s debut album, which was followed later the same year by their second long-player, Deliverance, and the following year by Just Blue. Collectively, these three albums sold more than 10 million copies around the world.
The new compilation will be available in clear vinyl and a double-CD edition. The vinyl release contains four exclusive edits of Carry On Turn Me On, My Love Is Music, Deliverance and Running In The City.
The three-panel double-CD edition adds two more tracks (Symphony and Velvet Rape), along with eight remixes that have not previously been released on physical media.
These remixes were produced in 2026 by artists whose careers were influenced by Space, including The Toxic Avenger, Domenico Torti, Dimitri From Paris, DJ Deep, Alex Gopher, Antoine Bourachot, The Reflex and Joe Smooth.
All tracks on the compilation have been remastered by Alex Gopher, while the release also includes liner notes by French music writer Jean-Yves Leloup.
