Berlin techno icon Ellen Allien has unveiled a new single, Steh Auf, the first release from her forthcoming new album, New Life, which is set to be released on 9 July on BPitch.
The album, which is described as a ‘powerful statement on personal autonomy, community responsibility, and the destructive forces threatening our planet’s beauty’, was recorded between Berlin, Miami and Ibiza over recent winters, and channels ‘themes of empowerment, anarchy, and collective action’, according to a press release.
Musically, it blends hypnotic techno, darkwave and rave elements with spoken word passages delivered by Allien herself.
The 10-track album builds on Ellen Allien’s decades of influence as both an artist and curator through BPitch, the label and event platform she founded in the late 1990s. She continues to be one of techno’s most recognisable figures, known for constantly pushing the genre into more experimental and emotionally expressive territory.
