Irish producers Belters Only have teamed up with Dundalk rapper Reggie on a new collaboration track, entitled To The Max.
Released on 1 May on Waa Records, the release sees the coming together of two thriving sectors of Ireland’s music scene – as Belters Only noted, “When two Irish worlds collide, the first summer release of many from us. Reggie reached out to us, and from there it’s history – turn the volume up to the max on this one, it’s a cracker.”
Belters Only, aka Bissett and RobbieG, broke through with Make Me Feel Good featuring Jazzy, following that up with tracks such as My Mind and Don’t Stop Just Yet, as well as sold-out shows both in Ireland and overseas.
Reggie, meanwhile, has been a driving force in Ireland’s rap and drill scene, with the County Louth rapper hitting the mainstream with Talk of the Town, a collaboration with Fred again.. and Sammy Virji. Since then, he’s been inching closer to electronic music, such as on the track El Paso (365) with David Keenan.
‘The link with Belters Only feels like a natural extension of that shift,’ as a press release put it. ‘There’s no big departure on either side as it is more of a meeting point as the production keeps Belters Only’s club focus intact, while Reggie’s vocal sits front and centre, cutting through it rather than being smoothed out by it. It’s the kind of crossover that’s been building for a while, simply overdue not forced.’
