#MyRecordBag – Demuir’s top vocal house cuts

Toronto native Demuir has a long history in the house scene, with releases on labels such as Hot Creations, Desolat, Rawthentic and his own Purveyor Underground imprint.

He’s just released a remix of Ce Ce Peniston’s Are You Ready?, with his Playboi Edit morphing the original into an upbeat house jam, with soaring vocals and garage-tinged drums. It was released on the newly launched Avenue X Records, and can be downloaded/streamed here

With that in mind, for this week’s #MyRecordBag feature, Demuir serves up his top vocal house cuts. Over to you, Demuir!

MAW – To Be In Love feat. India

“I got – and I’m still – caught up by the expression in this bassline, let alone India’s incredible vocal performance on this. I was beginning my studio experience when this dropped and I remember my engineer jamming alongside this track with his bass. This track is pure groove.”

Kerri Chandler – I Got This Feeling feat. Dreamer G

“This track is near and dear to me because it was one of the first house tracks that captured what house music is to me. Just brilliant through and through.”

Demuir – Lusting U feat. Bluey Robinson

“I can comfortably say that this track did exactly what I thought it would do to people – in a club or listening to someone that they are captivated by. Bluey’s vocal and bassline pull it all together for me here.”

Ron Hall – Talk To God ‘Bout It (Spen’s Sunday Service Re Edit)

“I first heard Oliver $ playing this at Bang Bang in San Diego and got swept by the invigorating energy Spen’s remix commands here.  You feel like you’re in the spirit with this one.”

DHS – House Of God (Phonique Remix)

“I caught this one during a DJ Sneak set I was lucky to experience live. The dreamy spoken word vocal and deep submissive bassline will get you every time.”

Derrick Carter – Where You At?

“Another track that will always get played, in my opinion. First, one must take in the brilliant poetry and message Derrick delivers here.  Aside from that, the flanged percussive effect never gets tired in delivering a sublime and funky feeling all at once.”

Joss Moog – Smith

“A simple, laid back groove here, but I love what Joss did to make a vocal scat line its own rhythmic instrumentation.”

N.W.N. – Play With My

“Not much to say here. If played for the right person at the right time, you will see tears, I assure you.”

Blue Boy – Sandman

“The sampling sophistication is tops for me on this one.  The catchy vocal line just swings with these jacked beats, and still stands today.”

Jason Hodges – Our World feat. William Alexander

“I always love a good transition from hip hop to proper jackin house and Jason, alongside William, have done exactly that here. The vocals play in and out of the pockets created by the piano and Jason’s swinging beats.  A must have always for me.”
