French electronic duo Justice have teamed up with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala on a new EP, Neverender, which has just been released on Ed Banger Records/Because Music.
The release features previously-unreleased versions of Neverender, the opening track off their recent album Hyperdrama – as well as the original, a radio edit and an extended mix, Kaytranada and Keinemusik’s Rampa weigh in on remix duties.
The release coincides with a fantastic anime-inspired video produced by Cekai, and directed by Masanobu Hiraoka with Kota Iguchi (Tokyo 2020 Olympics) and Armand Beraud (IRIS, A Space Opera by Justice).
Described as a ‘fantasmagoric journey through the minds of Justice and Tame Impala as they explore the world of Hyperdrama via an animation style that seamlessly fuses classic Art Nouveau aesthetics with vintage Japanese anime’, it’s well worth three-and-a-half minutes of your attention. Check it out below.
Hyperdrama is Justice’s first new studio album in eight years, and as well as Neverender (starring Tame Impala), the album features twelve additional tracks, which sees Justice team up with a host of collaborators including Thundercat, Miguel, The Flints, Rimon, and Connan Mockasin.
Justice debuted nearly 20 years ago with Waters of Nazareth, blending heavy metal imagery, French filter disco, and 70s gothic soundtrack influences. Despite the success of their crossover hit D.A.N.C.E. and winning two Grammys, the duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay distanced themselves from the mainstream, instead pursuing a path of musical experimentation.
