Orbital announce details of new album, ’30 Something’, preceded by single featuring Stephen Hawking

Orbital have released details of their forthcoming new album, 30 Something, which will feature a series of reworks, remakes, remixes and re-imaginings of landmark tracks from across their career.

The album has been preceded by a new single, Where Is It Going, featuring Stephen Hawking, which is a mix of their collaboration with the late theoretical physicist from the 2012 London Paralympics Opening Ceremony. You can download/stream the single here.

This is our special Paralympic version of ‘Where Is It Going?’, featuring the fantastic Stephen Hawking,” the duo, comprised of brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll, commended.

He’s tackling the big question of the unification of physics and the understanding of a theory of everything. We’re not there yet, we can’t even find a unification socially as a species but hopefully one day we will find out where we are going.”

Other tracks to feature on the 2-CD and quadruple vinyl set, which is set to be released on 29 July, include new version of popular classics such as Chime, Satan, The Box, Impact, Halcyon, Belfast, Are We Here? and more.

The album features contributions from Orbital-inspired artists and DJs, including Joris Voorn, Dusky, Jon Tejada, Yotto, and long-time supporter David Holmes, who reworks Belfast, the iconic track that got its name in his hometown.

Commenting on the new album, Phil Hartnoll said, “What’s been amazing for me is looking at our past and thinking of all the people who’ve come to see us, they are absolutely brilliant, warm and create such an amazing vibe. They are now bringing their kids to our gigs, they love it.”

Echoing his sentiment, Paul Hartnoll added, “Now we’re diving into our past and reminding ourselves, blimey, we really did that. And it’s still got something to say.”

Orbital ‘30 Something’ is released on 29 July 2022 on Orbital Recordings Ltd. via London Records. ‘Where Is It Going’ featuring Stephen Hawking is out now.
