Vocalists Inaya Day and Robin S pay tribute to Frankie Knuckles with release of ‘Right Now’

Few pioneers can claim to have changed the course of musical history like The Godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles, whose four-decade career coincided with the emergence of the now-thriving house music scene.

Prior to his death in 2014, Knuckles was working on the Directors Cut projects alongside long-time collaborator and close friend Eric Kupper – in fact, at the time of his passing, the duo were working on a duet concept album for vocalist Inaya Day (pictured), which was sadly never completed.

To coincide with his birthday, one of the tracks from this project has just been released, Right Now, which sees Day team up with another house icon, Robin S.

Released by SoSure Music, the original ‘Directors Cut Master’ of Right Now is released on 18 January on digital and streaming, with remixes and a 12” vinyl release set for later in the year.

Both Inaya Day and Robin S have storied careers; Day is best known for her vocal work on house music tracks such as Horny 98 by Mousse T, and her cover of Nasty Girl by Vanity 6. Robin S, meanwhile, made her grand introduction with pop crossover classic Show Me Love, and has contributed to many a house music classic since.

Happy birthday Frankie!
