With the future of Q Magazine said to be looking rocky, here’s a playlist compiled from its ‘100 Greatest Albums’ issue in 1998…

The news that Q Magazine could be facing closure – a victim of falling advertising and readers moving online – has been rightly met with dismay by music lovers, for whom the magazine (alongside Melody Maker, Select and other now-defunct titles) has long been essential reading.
According to a report in The Guardian, Bauer Media, which owns the title, is reviewing the future of several of its magazines, saying the current COVID- 19 crisis has exacerbated matters.
“The pandemic and lockdown has further accelerated the trends already affecting the publishing industry,” Chris Duncan, Bauer’s CEO, explained.
The news has made us here at 909originals get all nostalgic, so we’ve decided to put together a playlist based on one of Q’s biggest- selling issues of al time… The 100 Greatest Albums In The Universe issue from February 1998.

Compiling a top albums list at the height of Britpop was always going to be controversial – Oasis’ Be Here Now places 13th in the list…yes, 13th! – but the majority of the list is compiled of stone cold classics.
Also, we reckon if a similar list was put together today, the top five would largely remain unchanged.
So without further ado, here you are… 100 tracks from 100 top albums, counting down from #100 to #1, over seven and a half hours.
Some classics, some obscure choices, all killer no filler. Enjoy! 🙂
Here’s the full list of albums, for reference purposes… 🙂
