Orbital have announced that their 11th studio album, Other, will be released on 19 March next year, with the duo also announcing a UK and European tour to coincide with the release.
The first single from the album, Mother, Maiden & Crone, is out now, featuring vocals from English actor Maxine Peake and drawing on themes of witchcraft and folklore. Check it out here.
The single, and forthcoming album, is Orbital‘s first new material since 2023’s Optical Delusion, which reached No. 6 on the UK Official Albums Chart, the first time the pair had broken the top ten since 1999’s Middle of Nowhere. Since then, Orbital have re-released their debut, The Green Album, and Glastonbury 1994, the first official release of their 1994 festival set.
According to a press release, the album explores ‘themes of otherness – neurodiversity, identity, outsiders and the freedom to exist beyond society’s prescribed categories. Thematically and sonically, it is one of Orbital’s most ambitious records, moving through gothic folk, drum & bass, punk and ambient music alongside their trademark electronic sounds. Orbital have never restricted themselves to a single genre, never been content to tick the music category marked ‘dance music’. Other is further proof that after more than 35 years into their career, Orbital continue to challenge themselves and push electronic music forward. At their core, their attitude is always utterly punk.’
The 2027 tour will open at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre on 8 April, before visiting Limerick, Belfast, Northampton, Liverpool, Glasgow, Nottingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Frome, Birmingham, Bournemouth and London. European dates will follow in Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Copenhagen, with the final scheduled show at Store Vega on 4 May.
Tickets on general sale from 10am next Friday October 23rd with a pre-sale from 10am Wednesday October 21st. More details can be found here.
