Monolake’s 1999 album Interstate is set to receive its first-ever vinyl release next month, with the LP set to be released by Field Records on 19 June.

The reissue forms part of Field Records’ archival work documenting Monolake’s early catalogue, and is accompanied by a digital release.

Interstate marked the final collaboration between Monolake founders Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles, before Behles stepped away from Monolake to focus on the development of Ableton Live. Henke continued the project as a solo venture in the years that followed.

The eight-track album also saw the evolution of Monolake’s sound from dub techno to more detailed rhythmic structures. As a press release to announce the reissue put it, ‘The duo yielded greater complexity in the behaviour of their sound palette to achieve an organismic quality that remains an enduring influence on so many strands of experimental electronic music today. Interstate is a vivid record that builds up eight different ecosystems of sound and subtly threads elegant grooves through their root structures.’

Alongside his work with Monolake, Robert Henke became one of the co-founders of Ableton, while beyond music, Henke has also worked as a digital artist, presenting installations and audiovisual performances at institutions including Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou and MoMA PS1.

He released Monolake’s latest studio album, Studio, in 2024, while upcoming live performances include appearances in Seoul on 23 May and at London’s Barbican Centre on 7 November.
