Mike D unveils new single, ‘Switch Up’

Hot on the heels of being added to the Beyond The Pale 2026 festival lineup, former Beastie Boy Mike D has unveiled his debut solo single, Switch Up.

The single is the first new material from any former member of the Beastie Boys since the group’s 2011 album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two.

The origins of Switch Up came from informal recording sessions at Mike D’s home studio with his sons Davis and Skyler, with their band Very Nice Person. The sessions later expanded to include additional collaborators and recording locations.

‘The spontaneous, free-flowing and intuitive nature of these various sessions is apparent in the aptly titled single and its fluid direction shaped by community and creative chemistry,’ as a press release put it.

The single’s release follows a series of intimate live performances staged by Mike D in unconventional venues across the United States – including Malibu’s Brothers Marshall Surf Shop,The Ojai Valley Women’s Club, and Los Angeles’ Plaza Nightclub & Dance Hall.

It was produced by Carter Lang and Very Nice Person, while mixing duties were handled by Derek ‘MixedByAli’ Ali at No Name Studios. The artwork for the release was designed by San Francisco artist Thad Higa.

As well as Beyond The Pale, taking place in Wicklow, Ireland, from 12-14 June, Mike D also has upcoming shows at Sid the Cat Auditorium in South Pasadena (10 May) and Xanadu Roller Arts in Brooklyn (22 and 23 May).
