Mark Knight needs little in the way of introduction – the DJ, producer and radio presenter is the founder of Toolroom Records, and continues to be a driving force for house and tech house more than two decades on from the start of his career.
This weekend, Knight joins Todd Terry and Loeca at XOYO in Birmingham for the Cafe Mambo Ibiza Reunion party on 11 October, as the iconic Ibiza venue brings its sunset vibes to the UK for what promises to be a special night. Ticket information can be found here.
Ahead of that, for the latest #MyRecordBag feature, Mark Knight presents his current set essentials – the top tracks rocking dancefloors at present.
Foo Funkers – Too Much Love (Extended Mix) (Let Me Know)
“This one’s been doing serious damage in my sets lately. Foo Funkers nail that sweet spot between soulful house and peak-time energy. The vocal’s loaded with emotion, but it’s underpinned by a groove that just won’t quit. It’s the kind of track that lifts a room without shouting for attention, a real class act from Let Me Know.”
Hotmood – 1979 (Art Funk)
Hotmood continues to be one of the most consistent names in the nu-disco/funk house space, and 1979 is a perfect slice of that vintage sound. It oozes character – channelling that late ’70s vibe with warm keys, dusty samples, and a bassline that walks just right. It feels timeless but super playable right now, especially in those early evening or sunlit sets.
SanXero, Katarina G, N.W.N. – Walk By Me (N.W.N. Remix) (Papa)
“Easily my most-played tune in the headphones this year. There’s a silky, R&B edge to the vocal, wrapped up in this deep, rolling house groove. NWN’s been absolutely smashing it lately, and this remix is a perfect example. It even picked up a Killer Cut spot on my Friday Kiss FM show.”
Close Counters – I WANT YOU (Extended Mix) (Glitterbox)
“Absolutely love this. Close Counters have delivered something that’s equal parts funk, soul and straight-up dancefloor gold. The arrangement builds with real purpose and the groove is irresistible. Glitterbox is the perfect home for a track like this: it’s classy, uplifting, and full of character. Feels like a future classic in the making.”
HASKELL – Shake That (Toolroom)
“James Haskell just keeps levelling up. This is his debut solo release on Toolroom, and I think it’s his strongest track to date. It’s been one of my secret weapons for months: one of those tunes that gets DJs rushing over to the booth asking what it is.”
Joe Smooth – Promised Land (James Hurr & Mark Knight Remix) (Armada SBJKT)
“It was a real privilege to reinterpret such a legendary house anthem. We approached it with a deep respect for the original, aiming to modernise the production while preserving the heart and soul of the track. The full vocal and structure remain intact—the message still hits as hard today as it did back then. We just gave it the kind of sonic update that makes it work on today’s dancefloors.”
Jonas Blue & Malive – Edge Of Desire (Jazz-N-Groove Club Mix) (Defected)
“Defected absolutely nailed it getting Jazz-N-Groove on the remix here. Brian Tappert’s delivered a mix that channels the spirit of late ’90s house while still sounding bang up to date. It’s a standout from the summer and a proper club weapon.”
Sparque – Let’s Go Dancing (Michael Gray & Dr Packer Mix) (Fools Paradise)
“This one’s a beauty. Michael Gray and Dr Packer take the West End Records classic and inject it with real warmth and dancefloor polish. The kind of remix that feels both nostalgic and brand new pure house music gold.”
Zoo Brazil – Yes I Know (Knee Deep In Sound)
“Brilliant to have Zoo Brazil back on form with this one. It’s a beautifully crafted house track that works equally well as a warm-up or a closer. Another Killer Cut from the Friday night radio show.”
Tenacious – I Shoulda Loved Ya (Fools Paradise)
“The lads from Tenacious rework the Narada Michael Walden classic with serious class. It’s respectful of the original, but loaded with dancefloor energy. A textbook example of how to modernise a disco gem without losing its soul.”
