#MyRecordBag – From House to Disco’s top remixes of classic records

Brazilian duo From House To Disco have lived up to their name over the past decade or so, creating an upfront blend of house and disco – of past, present and future – at venues such as D-Edge, Time Warp, Piknic Electronik and Glitterbox, and on labels including Massa Records and Get Physical sub-label Cocada Music.

The duo, who hail from São Paulo, were recently called upon to curate a retrospective compilation for seminal Canadian label Definitive Recordings, established by John Acquaviva, Richie Hawtin, and Karl Kowalski in 1992.

The label was acquired by Get Physical last year, with John Acquaviva still retaining an A&R role, and the compilation, Disco House For All, which lands on 18 August, features tracks from Blunted Dummies, Tropical Underworld, Jetstream, Wax Fruit, Omega Man and Acquiaviva himself – a proper trip down memory lane. A download/stream link can be found here.

In the spirit of the compilation, for this week’s #MyRecordBag, From House To Disco present a playlist of their top remixes of classic records.

Barada – Gasoline (From House to Disco Remix)

“When we received the Definitive Recordings catalog, we immediately fell in love with Gasoline and its energetic, hypnotic atmosphere. I’d venture to say it’s one of our favourites on the compilation.”

Blaze ft Palmer Brown – Do You Remember House (Solid Groove Remix)

“A true dancefloor weapon, recognised from the first chords. We love this version by Solid Groove (aka Switch), which adds weight and energy while still maintaining its essence.”

Pet Shop Boys – It’s Alright (The Tyree Mix)

“Pet Shop Boys hold a nostalgic place for us, being children of the 1980s. This song, in particular, is beautiful in all its versions, but for the dance floor, Tyree Cooper’s version is unbeatable.”

A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray (Paradise Ballroom mix)

“We’re biased when it comes to Gerald, as we admire much of his work, including his contributions to 808 State. This song holds special meaning for us. During one of our sets, DJ Marky approached us, pleasantly surprised by our playlist despite our ‘young age’.”

Bizarre Inc – Love In Motion (Trance Form Club Mix)

“Many recognise Bizarre Inc for I’m Gonna Get You, a standout track, but their repertoire extends far beyond. Love In Motion is another classic, and this remix, though lesser-known, is sensational, like much of Blue Chip Records.”

Whitney Houston – I’m Every Woman (Clivilles & Cole House Mix I)

“Another nostalgic memory for the duo. We’ll never forget closing Trepanado’s Festa Selvagem at 6 am with a packed dance floor—it was unforgettable.”

Chez Damier – Never Knew Love (Made in Detroit Extended Mix)

“When Chez Damier, Ron Trent, and Kevin Saunderson collaborate, magic happens. It’s a refined, sophisticated classic with a timeless 90s house piano solo.”

Layo & Bushwacka! – Love Story (Bushwacka! Remix)

“Listening to Love Story brings back memories of Fatboy Slim’s Big Beat Boutique. This version adds a deeper, mysterious layer with rich textures. It’s a track we love surprising the dance floor with.”

Sydenham and Ferrer – Sandcastles (Martijn Ten Velden and Mark Knight Mix)

“We loved the original, but Martijn and Mark’s version brought a new, more dramatic narrative. Playing it at a festival on a major streaming platform during the pandemic, it caught the interest of many Gen Zers. It’s amazing how timeless classics can be.”

Duke – So In Love With You (Full Intention Mix)

“As a queer community anthem, it holds deep personal meaning for us. It marked a pivotal moment in our DJ career, sharing the lineup with master Kerri Chandler in Rio de Janeiro.”
