Deezer releases Beethoven remix package to mark composer’s 250th birthday

Yes, you read that right. Music platform Deezer has released a special remix package of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most acclaimed compositions, to mark the 250th anniversary of the German composer’s birth.

Artists signed up to the 14-track project include Worakls, Gattüso, Steve Aoki, Helion and Blasterjaxx, while there are also a number of reworkings of the famous Moonlight Sonata (Piano Sonata No. 14), by artists including Laura van Dam, Anetha and The Magician. You can check out the compilation here.

The stand-out for us, however, is the remake of Beethoven’s haunting Symphony No. 7 by Jean-Benoit Dunkel of French electronic outfit Air, dubbed DJ Ludwig Van.

“The beauty and drama of classical music makes it a perfect source of inspiration for electronic producers and it’s been thrilling to hear such a broad range of interpretations,” commented Nigel Harding, Deezer’s VP of Artist Marketing.

“Our Beethoven Remixed is the first exclusive playlist bringing together world class DJs to celebrate Beethoven’s massive legacy. Each track combines a distinctive style with the familiar composition of a classical master.”

Personally we’re wondering what Alex from A Clockwork Orange, arguably one of the more notorious Beethoven aficionados in popular culture might make of it all… 🙂
