Non-profit organisation Change the Beat has expanded its mission to increase representation within the electronic music industry, pledging to help 300 women and gender expansive artists secure label signings by 2028.

Founded by electronic music producer and DJ Sydney Blu, the organisation, which supports artists through education, mentorship, industry access, live events and release programmes, has outlined longer-term ambitions to facilitate 600 label opportunities within five years and 1,500 within the next decade.

“Over the course of my career, I’ve learned that talent alone isn’t always enough,” Sydney Blu commented. “Artists need access to mentorship, industry relationships, education, and opportunities to be seen and heard. Change The Beat was created to help provide those pathways.cam

“We’re not here simply to talk about the challenges facing women and gender expansive artists – we’re here to be part of the solution. Our focus is on creating real opportunities through education, mentorship, industry access, and artist development. Every signing, mentorship, contest winner, showcase slot, and industry introduction helps move the needle and creates a stronger future for the next generation of artists.”

Following the recent relaunch of its Remix Contest Programme, which has seen collaborative projects alongside the likes of SIPPY and DeadBeats, Change the Beat is also launching The Demo Room – a programme designed to connect emerging artists directly with record labels.

Previous partners have included Drumcode, mau5trap, Armada, Anjunadeep, Anjunabeats, Toolroom Records, Insomniac Records and Nervous Records, while artists connected with the programme have also contributed to releases involving deadmau5, Nicole Moudaber, Crystal Waters, Maya Jane Coles and Eli & Fur.

“We’ve already seen labels, artists, managers, brands, and industry partners rally behind this mission, and many have discovered incredibly talented artists through our community,” Blu added. “We invite the wider electronic music industry to join us in creating more pathways, more opportunities, and a stronger future for the next generation of talent.”

As Change The Beat noted, it has already helped facilitate more than 100 label signings since it was established in 2021, originally as 23by23 with support from Native Instruments and Beatport.
