Legendary electronic act Fluke have announced their return with a new album project, The Second Bite, which revisits some of the biggest tracks from their catalogue.
The album, released on 19 June through Surface Records in association with !K7 Music, featured updated versions of 12 tracks spanning different periods of Fluke’s career, including Atom Bomb, Groovy Feeling and Absurd. A limited-edition double vinyl edition will follow on 26 June.
Fluke’s return is being spearheaded by founding members Jon Fugler, Mike Tournier and Julian Nugent, who have revisited the old material, applying new production techniques and arrangements while retaining the tracks’ core elements.
“The making of The Second Bite is testament to never selling a sampler or synthesiser, like a voyage of discovery into the dusty end of the lock-up,” Fluke commented on the new release. “There are so many memories wrapped up in these songs, so, some real care was needed in how we approached them. It was a beautiful challenge, and what a pleasure to finally share it.”
Alongside the album, Fluke have released the first of two remixes of Atom Bomb by producer Daniel Avery – the Nuclear Summer Remix. It forms part of a wider series of remixes planned for the coming months.
Emerging from London’s acid house scene, Fluke’s mixture of house, techno, breakbeat and ambient crossed over between club, soundtrack and gaming cultures, with tracks appearing in films including The Matrix Reloaded and Sin City, as well as video games including Need for Speed: Underground and Wipeout 2097. They also remixed artists such as Björk, New Order, Talk Talk and The Rolling Stones.
