KidIsLive, the project of Long Island producer Derek Kamm, has unveiled a new four-track EP, Mad Motel 002, on his Mad Motel label, continuing his exploration of house, minimal and experimental influences.
Boasting more than 20 years of experience as a DJ and producer, KidIsLive previously released music on labels such as Visionquest, and has received support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola and Carl Craig.
For this week’s #MyRecordBag, KidIsLive serves up his top US dance records – expect some serious 70s and 80s grooves. Over to you, Derek!
Skatt – Walk The Night
“Such a sexy kick and snare that beats your ass with a catchy vocal hook.”
Stephanie Mills – Pilot Error
“What a vocal and voice on Mills, funky ass bass and hooky synth work made this a huge tune back in the day.”
Junior – Unison
“Love the vocal ticking for percussion in the opening loop here, it just channels you into the groove, and Junior’s voice almost has MJ quality. That makes this a banger.”
Cindy & Roy – I Wanna Testify
“Love the percussion and groove with this one, slick rolls a stabs – great instrumental here.”
Bob McGilpin – Superstar
“Massive tune that pivots off Disco Inferno‘s legendary hit with a sleight of hand on the keys if you listen.”
D.C. LaRue – Cathedrals
“Everything about this track is epic, but the groove and bass steal the show for me.”
Space – My Love Is Music
“Massive guitar riff, and the title says it all.”
Tom Moulton – Put Yourself In My Place
“Smashing groove here, great hook – a big track in that era for sure.”
Willie Colón – Set Fire To Me (Inferno Dub)
“This track must have ruled the right parties at the time. Playing this out even now would send the crowd into a trance.”
Billy Frazier & Friends – Billy Who?
“Everyone wanted to know Billy when this was playing at some afters – a magical tune with super powers.”
