Rushkeys serves up remix of Peter Vogelaar’s ‘Biakoye’

Lithuanian artist Rushkeys, aka producer Domas Ruškys, has released a lush, melodic remix of Peter Vogelaar’s Biakoye.

Vilnius native Rushkeys, who is renowned for blending dreamy melodies with groove-laden rhythms, says that he was drawn to the “organic feel” of the original track, the title of which translates as ‘unity’ in Twi, a variant of the the Akan language spoken in southern and central Ghana.

The original Biakoye was crafted by compiling a library of field recordings and infusing beats around them, with Rushkeys eager to keep that spirit intact.

“The original’s field recordings and string arrangements already carried a strong sense of atmosphere, so I built around those elements, emphasising the strings and weaving in a dynamic rhythmic flow,” he says.

“I incorporated the balafon, a West African wooden percussion instrument, along with organic rhythmic textures, allowing these elements to intertwine and create a sense of movement and cohesion. The result is a fluid and evolving energy that reinforces the track’s sense of unity – different sounds and influences coming together as one.”

Fans of Bonobo, Parra for Cuva, Catching Flies and il:lo should take note.
