Radio Slave set to release new album, ‘Venti’, in May
Radio Slave has announced details of a forthcoming new album, Venti, which is set to be released on Rekids on 17 May.
The album began life as a series of singles released last year, and sees Radio Slave, aka Matt Edwards, explore the house, disco and pop reinterpretations that helped establish his career at the start of the 2000s.
“Like everyone else, my life slowed down during the pandemic, and then I decided to move from Berlin with my family after being in the city for 15 years,” Edwards commented.
“This all led to a new perspective, and Venti is a direct result of that – a new perspective on my career, history, future, and the current state of dance music.”
The album has been preceded by the release of The Lunatics, a cover of the Fun Boy Three classic The Lunatics Are Taking Over The Asylum, which Edwards put together in tribute to the late Terry Hall, as well as featuring other familiar tracks – a Radio Slave favourite, Wait A Minute, is updated to include a powerful vocal from Nez, while Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head is reimagined as an Italo disco track.
There’s also a cover of Audio’s Mouth to Mouth, the minimal classic that soundtracked many a dancefloor in the mid 2000s.
Over the years, as well as running his Rekids imprint, Radio Slave has released on labels such as Running Back, R&S, Innervisions and Figure, collaborated with the likes of DJ Hell and Robert Hood, and made regular appearances at venues such as Ministry of Sound and Berlin‘s Panorama Bar.
