ANALOG RHYTHMS – A Celebration of Dublin Club Culture returns on 14-16 July
The ANALOG RHYTHMS exhibition, which returns to The Racket Space at The Bernard Shaw from 14 to 16 July, celebrates the evolution of the Dublin club scene during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Telling the story of pivotal venues such as Sides DC, Temple of Sound, The Ormond Multi Media Centre, The Pod, Columbia Mills, The Asylum, Temple Theatre, The Kitchen, System, The Funnel, The Furnace and many more, and featuring a massive collection of flyers, photos, clippings and memorabilia, the exhibition has been curated by 909originals.com, in association with Bodytonic.
The highlight of the weekend is undoubtedly set to be the Saturday evening club night, which will feature a three-hour set from acid house legend A Guy Called Gerald, as well as performances from Warren K and Jon Hussey. On top of that, a series of events will take place over the weekend.

909originals’ Steve Wynne-Jones explores the cultural impact that dance music had on the Irish capital during the 1990s, and why the reverberations from that period are still being felt today. Featuring the following panellists (final panel lineup to be confirmed).
Naphta
Naphta, real name Shane O’Shea, is perhaps best known for his role in establishing the Bassbin club nights and record label (alongside Rohan) in the mid to late 90s, but his contribution to the Irish dance scene goes back even further, as he was one of the first DJs to spin hardcore and jungle – his regular pirate radio show alongside Don Rosco was the first to showcase the breakbeat genre. A renowned producer on labels such as D1, Ruff Revival, Lightless Recordings and of course the Bassbin label, today he teaches English at DCU.
Venetia Quick
Venetia Quick is currently the presenter of Q102 Breakfast with Aidan and Venetia and co-presenter of the Grief Encounters podcast. She has been closely aligned with the Dublin club scene since the early 90s, and has run a number of Strictly Handbag nights in the Sugar Club in aid of The Martin Thomas Trust, in association with Jigsaw. She’s also the ambassador for this year’s Irish Life Dublin City Marathon.
DJ Orbit
DJ Orbit, aka Rory Long, has been DJing since the mid 90s, and was a regular at clubs such as The Ormond, the Temple of Sound and Tin Pan Alley, as well as on Club FM. He rose to prominence as the resident at the legendary Temple Theatre from 1999 to 2003, developing a reputation for pumping hard house and trance. He still DJs to this day – covering a wide array of genres – at venues across the country.
9pm – Analog Rhythms Club Night
909originals and Bodytonic are proud to welcome Manchester legend A Guy Called Gerald to headline our intimate club night, the main event of the ANALOG RHYTHMS weekender, with support from Dublin legends Warren K and Jon Hussey. The timetable for the club night is as follows:
9pm-10.30pm – Jon Hussey
Jon Hussey has been a core figure in Ireland’s techno scene since the early 90s, with residencies at Planet Dub at Columbia Mills, D-Fuse at The 13th Floor and many others, not to mention appearances at clubs such as Tresor, Suicide Circus and other international venues. He also has a number of productions under his belt, on labels such as Earwiggle, Delinquent Delivery, RLSD Records and more. At ANALOG RHYTHMS, Jon will set the tempo with some deep beats from his Columbia Mills days.
10.30pm-1.30am – A Guy Called Gerald
Manchester native Gerald Simpson, aka A Guy Called Gerald, has been at the forefront of numerous musical genres over his 30-plus year career – having forged a path for acid house with Voodoo Ray and his work with 808 State, he followed that up in the 90s with arguably the best jungle album of all time, Black Secret Technology. As well as his own output, over the years he has worked with artists such as Frankie Knuckles, Goldie and Derrick May, and remixed everyone from David Bowie to The Stone Roses. We are proud to welcome Gerald to ANALOG RHYTHMS for what should be a storming three-hour set.
1.30am-close – Warren K
One of the most influential DJs on the Dublin dance scene, Warren K cut his teeth at legendary club The Asylum in the early 90s, before holding down a number of residencies at various venues, including The Kitchen, where he soundtracked the notorious Genius night every Tuesday. He is also a member of Lectrosoul, alongside Richard Rock and MarkSound. At ANALOG RHYTHMS, expect Warren to wrap up the night in his own inimitable style.
Sunday 16 July
12pm – Kidsyard Family Rave
Who said adults should have all the fun? Kidsyard Rave is an inclusive family experience. Presented by Bodytonic, old ravers can relive their youth with their kids (and without the hangover!) at this fun-filled family-friendly rave.
