The one-off performance followed on from his Monumental Tour, which was first launched in 2020, and visited a number of landmarks around France.
‘By bringing electronic music, art installations, video projections and lightshows Michael is able to showcase these sites in a new light and highlight the importance of their preservation,’ as the official press release puts it.
This included his recent New Year’s Eve performance at Château de Chantilly, Mont Saint Michel (which was broadcast on TV, attracting 6.3 million viewers).
The single, Samothrace, is described as a ‘night-tripping instrumental’ that echoes the energy and grandeur of his live performances.
