Faithless have unveiled their eighth studio album, Champion Sound, which features collaborations with artists including Bebe Rexha, Antony Szmierek, Emmanuel Jal, L.S.K, and spoken word artist Suli Breaks.
Released on 5 September on double vinyl and digital platforms via ADA, the new album also features the final recorded vocal of late frontman Maxi Jazz, on the opening track Forever Free.
The album is presented in four parts, Forever Free, which incorporates four tracks; Phone Number, which is styled as an audio triptych in collaboration with Nathan Ball and Amelia Fox; Book of Hours, a 14-minute orchestral-influenced piece; and Champion Sound, a five-track closing section that returns to the group’s club-driven roots.
As Faithless put it, “This is music I personally would and do dance to. After the ‘experiences’ of the first three sides of the album, this fourth and final side builds its foundations on the simple pleasure of funkiness, and stands as a tribute to the mash-up UK sound system culture that brought bass-shaking music to life on our streets.”
The album was recently debuted at a Pete Tong-hosted listening party, and is described as a ‘sonic journey […] Charting new territory while celebrating Faithless’ unbelievable legacy at the same time.’
Currently led by founding members Rollo and Sister Bliss, Faithless have been active for three decades, releasing seven previous studio albums and achieving three UK number ones. Champion Sound is their first new album in five years. You can buy/stream it here.
