Soul Clap have joined forces with Haven Star on a new single set for release on Crosstown Rebels on 23 May, entitled Gone Stumblin’.
The US house duo are teaming up with the rising South Florida artist on a track that has its origins in sessions at the Marcy Hotel in Brooklyn, where keyboardist John Camp created the original chord progressions and melody.
It then remained unreleased for several years, before Charles Levine of Soul Clap reworked the piece, inviting Haven Star to contribute vocals and lyrics.
“The origins of ‘Gone Stumblin’ lead back to sessions at the original Marcy Hotel where Wolf + Lamb made history. Charlie connected with South Florida rising talent Haven Star whose songwriting and vocal delivery took it into the cosmos!” Soul Clap said of the track.
“The lyrics speak of a girls night out with some hazy outcomes, but the title actually references a long-lost comedy short and inside crew classic about a man hilariously struggling to stay on his feet. Somehow it all makes perfect sense.”
Haven Star, who is 24 years old, has performed with established artists such as Patti LaBelle, Jeff Beck, and Sam Moore, cutting her teeth across genres from orchestral pop to funk-fueled house.
“From losing your things in a taxi to quite literally stumbling around the club not wanting to be bothered, Gone Stumblin’ embodies a girls night out to the highest degree,” she said of the track. “Ending up still out on a Tuesday morning when you left your house on a Friday night? Proper bender to say the least…”
