Ronan O Ciosoig returns with release under new pseudonym, ‘Surnio’

Ireland-born, Barcelona-based producer Ronan O Ciosoig has announced the release of a new production persona, Surnio, and a new release on his own One Louder Recordings label, the Sakudei EP. You can purchase it here.

O Ciosoig is no stranger to Irish audiences, having built a cult following during the 1990s with his ‘Ron’s Mobile Disco’ vehicle, which saw him hold residencies in Dublin’s RedBox and headline a stage at the Witnness Festival in 2001.

In 2003, he moved to Barcelona, establishing a residency at the highly-regarded Zentraus club, and appearing at various clubs and events across Europe.

His two EPs released on One Louder to date, Subconscious Threat (2001) and Pilobactor (2002), have become collectors items – seeing a re-release in 2019 via the Seven Hills label – which in turn prompted the relaunch of the One Louder label.

909originals caught up with Ron a few years back – that interview can be found here.

If you’re wondering about the name – ‘Surnio’ is taken from ‘Surnia’, a species of North American owl, while ‘Sakudei‘ takes its name from the endangered Sakkudei tribe in Indonesia.

As for the release itself? Expect shimmering stabs, slowly evolving melodies and Balearic touches. Also, on board for remix duties, is house and techno legend Funk D’Void.

Surnio ‘Sakudei’ (Incl. Funk D’Void Remix) is out now on One Louder Recordings.
