#MyRecordBag – Madben reveals his favourite French electronica tracks

French techno artist Madben shot to prominence with his 2018 debut album Fréquence(s), released on Astropolis in 2018, and the Lille native recently announced details of his forthcoming long player, set to land on Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio label on 7 April.

As he explains, the album, entitled Troisième Sens, features a “diverse selection of moods. It’s dark in places but happy in others.

“Over the years, I learned to have more fun with the gear in my studio, and this has been the result. The album took three years to finish; I started in an underground basement studio in Paris before moving to Nantes. Therefore, it may surprise listeners with such a diverse selection of moods.” More information can be found here.

Ahead of the album’s release, 909originals asked Madben to take part in our regular #MyRecordBag feature – here he offers up a playlist of ten of his favourite French electronica tracks.

Laurent Garnier – Cinq o’clock in Le Matin [Cod3 QR]

“How can you not start with a track from the French maestro Laurent Garnier. His music has always inspired me so much and Laurent was one of the first artists to help me when I started composing music. Fun fact: a few years later we did a track together on my first album… and the story isn’t over!”

Captain Mustache feat Davina – Catch Me [Bedrock]

“A classy track featuring Davina. It sounds like a classic from the 90’s but it was released super recently.”

Adventice – Chop Chop [Deeplyrooted]

“An absolute groovy bomb of a tune by two excellent French producers, DJ Deep and Traumer. I’ll be never tire of playing this one in my gigs!”

Klint – Perc [Planet Rhythm]

“I love Klint’s music, it’s full of energy and it sets the dancefloor on fire. In this one I particularly love the Detroit sounding stabs and that tension during the whole track. It’s a perfect tool.”

Kmyle – Synchopa [Astropolis]

“Since this was released, I haven’t been able to stop playing it. A huge bomb of a tune by an excellent French producer.”

Voltaire – Frequencies [Aestria]

“A beauty electro track, dreamlike and full of positive things. The perfect tune to close a mix.”

Trismus – Ultra [Inphase]

“This is the kind of music that can bring a strange, electrical and particular atmosphere during my DJ sets. A perfect combo between intense, ambient and dark influences.”

Unklevon – Sharping Shadow [Boysnoize Records]

“I love the energy and the atmosphere in this track, typically the kind of dark electro I love to play sometimes when I feel it’s the right time.”

Rebeka Warrior, Manu le Malin & Madben – Grief, Dance To Death [Astropolis]

“It was super hard not to mention those two maestros, Rebeka and Manu, with whom I did this special track. It was a real honour for me to work with them, and at the end we had a really special and unique track.”

Louisahhh and Maelstrom – The Seed [RAAR]

“A post apocalyptic track with the crazy voice of Louisahhh’s. Perfect to close that playlist in a punk way!”
