Barcelona’s Primavera Sound plans 11 days’ worth of music for summer 2022 edition
Having been forced to postpone both its 2020 and 2021 editions, Primavera Sound 2022 was always going to have to make up for lost time, and the festival organisers have announced an unprecedented 11 days’ worth of music for its June 2022 instalment.
Running from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 12th June, incorporating two bumper weekends as well as a series of midweek events, Primavera Sound will feature more than 400 artists, as the event marks its 20th anniversary, festival directors Alberto Guijarro and Alfonso Lanza have announced.
Two main events will take place at Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum during two weekends, from June 2 to 4 and from June 9 to 11, with the event closing on Sunday June 12th, will close with the Brunch – On The Beach party.
In between, from June 5 to 8, a spectacular edition of Primavera a la Ciutat will feature over 150 concerts around different venues in Barcelona, while Primavera Pro will also strengthen its position as a strategic meeting point for the industry.
‘The challenge is enormous, but so is the exceptional nature of the situation: when confronted with a mortally wounded industry, the only way is a superlative response,’ Primavera Sound said in a press release. ‘In the face of two years with practically no work or revenue for artists and their teams, concert venues and all sectors directly or indirectly involved in live music, the largest edition of Primavera Sound ever seen.’
The lineup announcement is taking place next Tuesday, 25 May, with the first band already confirmed – Mallorca-based Antònia Font will reunite to perform at the festival after announcing their separation in 2013.
The organisers have also announced the creation of Fundació Primavera Sound, a corporate social responsibility initiative which will seek to integrate the festival in the communities of Sant Adrià de Besòs, Besòs i el Maresme and Diagonal Mar.
All tickets already purchased for the 2020 and 2021 editions will allow ticket holders to attend Primavera Sound 2022 Barcelona, with ticket holders given the option of selecting one of the two weekends, or upgrading their ticket to include both events. New tickets will also go on sale, from 1 June.
‘Once again, we cannot thank the fans enough for their inexorable support in this journey that has not yet come to an end,’ the organisers added. ‘Those fans who bought their ticket for the festival at the beginning of 2020 with the intention of celebrating the anniversary with us, and most of whom later not only kept their ticket when it had to be postponed to 2021 but also contributed to the festival selling out in record time. We hope to see all of you here again finally in 2022. The third time’s a charm… twice.’
