Digitalism have announced details of a forthcoming new album, Optimism, as well as a European tour later this year.

The album, which will be released on 29 May (and can be pre-ordered here), has been preceded by a single, Space Invaders, which is out now.

“In search of a better place, on an expedition, guided by our studio, we found it in a firework of colours, chords and melodies,” the German electronic duo said of the new album. “Most of the album work was done over the winter. The greyer the environment, the more colourful music we started to create. Optimism is meant to be a landscape you can get lost in.”

To support the release, the group will embark on a UK and European tour later this year, kicking off in Manchester on 9 October, and taking in stops in London, Turin, Rome, Prague, Vienna, Warsaw, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Hamburg. Further dates and festival appearances are set to be announced soon.

Formed in Hamburg in 2004 by Jens Moelle and İsmail Tüfekçi, Digitalism first gained prominence with their 2007 debut album Idealism, which featured tracks such as Pogo and Zdarlight, helping establish the duo as key figures in the electro-house and indie-dance crossover scene.

Since then, they have built a reputation for both studio production and remix work, collaborating with major acts including The Presets, Tom Vek, The Futureheads, Daft Punk, Tiga, Klaxons, the White Stripes and Depeche Mode.

Digitalism – Optimism is released on 29 May.
