Drum ‘n’ bass legend Goldie has unveiled a documentary, The Rufige Files, which explores the evolution and ethos of his Rufige Kru project.
Told through the perspectives of Goldie and Rufige Kru compatriot Submotive, the documentary, which is now available to view on YouTube, also features guest appearances from Marc Mac, Photek, dBridge and Heist.
Rufige Kru has been an enduring influence on drum ‘n’ bass and jungle since the 1990s, commencing with the Dark Rider EP on Reinforced Records, while the track Terminator is also cited in the documentary as a ‘defining statement’ of the Rufige sound.
The documentary also explores the development of last year’s AlphaOmega album, which saw Rufige Kru revisit original Digital Audio Tapes (DATs) from the 90s to locate and reuse archival samples, presenting them in a contemporary format.
‘Central to the project is the contrast between “light and the dark”, a duality referenced throughout the catalogue and cited by Goldie in the documentary as influenced by his days as a graffiti writer, and continues to be a central theme in Rufige Kru’s releases,’ as a press release put it.
The documentary was produced and directed by Goldie with support from Army Of Few and London Records.
